The Atem Foundation is focused on addressing the growing impacts of conflicts on civilian population, particularly on children, young girls, women, and persons with disabilities, and uplifting vulnerable groups and communities out of poverty.
Investing in the economic empowerment, training, and skills development of young people and women in communities affected by conflict or those fleeing from conflict is one of the most urgent and effective means for fostering progress in gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth. To achieve healing, integration, and economic growth for displaced persons and local communities, we have established projects that meet their specific needs.
The HER Startup project is a first-of-its-kind women entrepreneurship program to carve pathways for refugee and IDP women in Africa with an entrepreneurial drive. Starting from training to funding, the program is tailored to serve these women and to address their unique socio-economic challenges and barriers displaced people face, particularly women.
Our empowerment program offers business training, communications skill-building, and mentorship to support displaced women navigate the entrepreneurship environment. Participants in the program receive business coaching, networking, and connection to opportunities to ensure, women in particular, have all they need to excel and cater for their families.
We provide young people, women, and community members of at-risk communities with access to training, skills development, and the additional resources necessary to secure employment and create opportunities to further their lives. To achieve this goal, we work with governments, community leaders, stakeholders, and additional civil society organizers to introduce policy reforms for education and skills development and provide vocational training, business training, micro-finance projects, and entrepreneurial opportunities to uplift and build a path towards hope for vulnerable communities around the globe.
