Humanitarian Relief

When armed conflicts arise or natural disasters strike, the impacts affect our world at a human level; communities are stricken, families are displaced, and the day-to-day life, as well as the course of an individual's long-term prospects, can be severely disrupted. When huge numbers of people are affected by  such phenomena, we respond by offering relief thereby mitigating the suffering and subsequent  loss of life.  This is the principal aim of our humanitarian relief program.

The Foundation runs a range of projects aimed at meeting people’s basic needs and assisting recovery efforts. It’s hugely important that populations hit by disasters or conflicts receive humanitarian aid. Our relief efforts offer the following:

  • Food assistance remains a critical element of our relief efforts. Displaced persons are those affected the most due to food insecurity and the provision of food is focal to their livelihood and existence.
  • Provision of food box assistance to disabled, sick, and aged refugees. These people with mobility impairments who require special attention to get assistance at their door-step.
  • Provide medical assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons. Assistance with medical bills for these disadvantaged populations is critical to their livelihood.
  • Provision of sanitary and hygiene products for women and young girls. Being the most disadvantaged, women and girls are exposed to various forms of barriers, their personal hygiene being one of importance.
  • Invest in offering mental health therapy to help displaced people heal from the trauma of abuse, conflicts and disasters. Forced displacement due to armed conflict, persecution or natural disasters puts significant psychological stress on individuals, families and communities.
  • provision of temporary shelter to displaced persons. In the absence of accommodation that provides for a normal life-style, we assist refugees in sites or settlements established by UNHCR and OCHA by providing tents, mattresses and other materials to keep them safe.

Our assistance is provided as close to the community of refugees and affected individuals to ensure timely access to resources and to reduce the need for dangerous travel that sometimes exposes them to further abuses. Our humanitarian relief work builds local capacity as part of our response to reduce reliance on international assistance and allow communities that are affected by conflicts and disasters to better help themselves. Effective capacity building means in future humanitarian aid can be delivered by local actors.
