Relief to Refugees in Gembu-Taraba State, Nigeria

Gembu Relief Effort, Nigeria

Gembu is one of eleven jurisdictions in the Sardauna Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State in North-Eastern Nigeria and is host to over 18,000 refugees who have fled the escalating armed conflict in the Cameroons. These refugees are assessed to be some of the most neglected in terms of food assistance, and living conditions are often dehumanizing and health-threatening. In 2021, the Atem Foundation provided food assistance to over 3,000 refugees within the Gembu region and surrounding communities, as well as critical health and sanitary items for young girls and women. Food assistance purchased by the A.F. Foundation is locally purchased and tailored to promote the local economy where possible to assist both the individual refugees and the health and prosperity of the host country.
