1. Humanitarian Relief
Investment in the economic empowerment, training, and skills development of young people and women in regions of conflict is one of the most urgent and effective means for fostering progress in gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth.2. Training and Economic Empowerment Program
When armed conflict arises or natural disaster strikes, the impacts affect our world at a human level; communities are stricken, families are displaced, and the day-to-day life, as well as the course of an individual's long-term prospects, can be severely disrupted. The Atem Foundation's humanitarian program is designed to alleviate suffering and positively impact the course of life for individuals around the globe following the devastation of crisis events. Through effective response and efficient community-driven collaboration with key partnerships and individuals, we provide critical life-saving measures, including food security measures, shelter providence, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene improvement, emergency healthcare services, child protection programs, education resources, and an expansive host of additional critical human-centered infrastructure to individuals in the "forgotten corners of the world." Our assistance is provided as close to the direct community of refugees and affected individuals to ensure timely access to resources and to reduce the need for dangerous travel throughout unstable regions.3. Education and Advocacy
The Atem Foundation Education and Advocacy Program (EAP) offers young people, women, and communities the opportunity to express their perspectives to the world while working to shift policy and create systemic change to better the lives of individuals around the globe. By utilizing education, communication, and leadership skills, the EAP engages communities, and co-creates action plans to influence decision-makers while providing vital educational support to constituents worldwide so that everyone has the opportunity to share their story. Every child has a right to learn. According to UIS data, 258 million children and youth are out of school worldwide and UNICEF reports an estimated 617 million children worldwide are unable to reach minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics due to disruption in education from armed conflict, natural disasters, health pandemics, and poverty. The AF EAP works alongside local communities and youth organizations to reach the children and adolescents who remain excluded from their educational avenues. We believe that the youth are the experts in their own experience and are, therefore, critical allies in fighting discrimination, drugs, and other negative influences. Advocating for the Future Within the advocacy sector, the AF EAP engages local communities, children, youths, refugees, and community mentors to advocate for neighborhood improvements, policy change, and increased access to critical infrastructure. Our advocacy measures empower communities and constituents to assess their own environments, prioritize pressing problems, and develop and implement plans to advocate for necessary change from local decision-makers and politicians. We work within national political, economic, and social structures to ensure policies and practices exist in compliance with international standards while working with refugee communities and key stakeholders to provide a space for their voices to be heard so that together we can create positive operational and structural change.Join our Humanitarian Mission

4. Research and Sustainability Developments
The Atem Foundation Research and Sustainability Development Project (AF-RSDP) works with local communities to support citizens in defining, developing, and directing their own futures by promoting research in result-based policies, community ownership, and sustainability-focused development initiatives. By inviting community participation and collaborating with academic institutions to conduct research in vital, future-focused issues, we support local citizens and groups in building a sustainable and flourishing tomorrow for all. The AF-RSDP provides multiple micro-grants for community research projects and works with university students, local organizations, and stakeholders to leverage research results into applicable policy designed to enhance current and future sustainability developments. Rooted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a pact adopted by all United Nations members in 2015, the AF-RSDP provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity across the planet, now and into the future. At the heart of our work are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an urgent call for all countries to work together in global partnership to end poverty while improving health, boosting sustainability, reducing inequality, and spurring economic growth.Join our Humanitarian Mission

5. International Volunteer Program
The Atem Foundation International Volunteer Program builds on our core value for humanity and shared responsibility for a better world. Volunteers work with grassroots communities and disadvantaged populations to create change that lasts long after their service. Regardless of the time you spend, as a Volunteer, you can make an investment in our world - one handshake, one project, one friendship at a time - that leads to new possibilities for hundreds and thousands that depend on you for renewed hope for a better future. Our two volunteer areas, health, and education are central to our community development and empowerment goals. The program currently sends Volunteers to work with refugee communities and displaced persons in Nigeria and conflict affected communities in the Cameroons. Our pre-deployment orientation emphasizes on the need for Volunteers to develop a greater understanding of factors that may impact and influence their volunteer experience, interactions with staff, fellow Volunteers, local communities and host country. The Foundation’s volunteer program encourages deep humility and helps build transferable skills as our staff and Volunteers partner at the grassroots level with people in Nigeria and Cameroons. We seek to foster an inclusive, equitable, and accessible organizational culture - one that ensures diversity of thought, experience, and personal background as we partner with and serve host country communities. We encourage our volunteers to reflect on aspects of their own social identities, values, and intercultural competence, and to reflect on those of their host country.
